A little something fun
A friend of mine had this as her away message and it makes me smile!!!
Arizona girls are pretty,
Northwestern girls are smart,
But it takes a Luther girl
to win a fella's heart.
Texas girls are tan,
NYU girls got dough,
But when you want the hottest girls,
Decorah is where to go.
UMass girls are wild,
Illinois girls are fun,
But when a girl's from Luther,
You know she's #1.
Search each and every college,
North, East, South, or West,
You'll find that those Luther girls
will ALWAYS be the best!
So, for any guy who reads this
and truly wants to know:
Get yourself a Luther girl,
and never let her go! Current Mood: rejuvenated

A Paideia Common Quiz for Nostalgics:
Do you prefer the classic taste of Mabe's Pizza or the mass-produced med bread goodness of Pizza Ranch?
Personally, I'm a fan of both, but I've come across some Luther folks (not just here) who seem to be vehemently opposed to the former --so, does Mabe's deserve its standing as a Decorah institution, why or why not? (in 500 words or less) Current Mood: goofy
Ok due to the awesome responses from my previous post, I decided to apply to Luther! woohoo!!
I'm going down to do an admissions visit tomorrow, and then I'll be staying the night to socialize and be naughty with a friend from high school.
What should I check out/keep in mind/look for while I'm down there? anything I might not see on a tour, etc.

art at Luther?
I'm currently a student at the University of Minnesota and am looking to leave to go to somewhere like Luther.
Does anyone know about Luther's art program/department? I see that there's only one general art major (where I'm an art history major but am thinking of doing in a double major in studio art). Other than art history I'm looking into design stuff like for music posters, etc. and I'm not sure if Luther is a great place for this.
Anyone have any info?

I'll be headed to Luther late august to move into my dorm with, well, everyone else, starting college at Luther. What are some things to keep in mind or advice anyone here has on getting used to college/dorm/Luther life?

For those of you who know me and didn't see me this past week while I was visiting, I apologize profusely for not managing to look everyone up! For those who did, it was awesome to see y'all again. I've sure missed Luther and its people.
The update on my life: I joined the Army, and after much craziness, I'm now a trained wheeled-vehicle mechanic. I work on everything with wheels- no tanks, just trucks. I'm stationed in Korea for the next year and it's pretty exciting. So much for using my sociology degree, but I am pursuing a masters.. in a yet to be determined field. Lots of adjusting going on with everything occuring in my life.
I still play horn and I'm still always on the hunt for the perfect green chair to sleep in and the perfect cookie. I greatly miss Luther, and my advice to those who are still there is to savor every minute.

Hey all, just thought i would make my introduction now. just found the community..yay! though if there's a mod (or whoever created the community) should add "luther" or "luther college" or related keywords to the community's interests so others can find it easier.
But i'm Ben Weiss, a high school senior (this coming year, anyways) in the Twin Cities. I lived in Decora for 4 years; i attended middle school there while my dad, David Weiss, taught religion at Luther. I love Luther, and Decorah, and am hell-bent on heading there for my BA. My real interest is library sciences, but thats a Masters program, so i'll be shooting for some collection of majors and minors with religion, philosophy, and psychology...maybe linguistic stuff, too.
I thought it woudl be cool to join to start making connections and hear the tales and gosspis of present and past Luther students before i move down next year.

hey all. i just found this community and wanted to say hi. i graduated long ago (2000) and regularly find myself nostalgic for my luther days... dunning springs, drag balls, cave parties, the basement of larsen, j-term, the haymarket, char kunkel, david reed-maxfield, jyoti grewal.... (do they still have drag balls and cave parties?) i'm now in portland, oregon and loving it, but i would give anything to re-live some of those luther times. i didn't realize how amazing it was until it was over.

Hi - I'm new to the community and just wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Kate, I'm a senior at Luther now, psychology major. Next year I'm going to grad school at the U of M for my master's in counseling. I'm definitely ready to get out of Decorah and into Minneapolis, but I will also miss it... it's really become home to me and not being back next year will for sure feel unnatural for awhile. But, it's time to move on!
Are there any alumns in the community who are living in the twin cities?
another religion professor flies the coop
About a week ago Melanie Johnson-DeBaufre announced that she has taken a job at Drew University in New Jersey, 30 miles from New York City where she will have some doctoral students, etc to work with. I'm assuming it begins next fall. The Johnson-DeBaufres are leaving Luther!!! :*(

Job search successful!
Hey, I'm new to the community and fairly new to LJ. but not new to Luther.
For anybody interested- today I was offered the position of HS and MS choir director at Norwalk, IA (and accepted) which is just south of Des Moines. I will be doing 9th choir, 8th choir, helping with 6th and running the swing choir. Pretty exciting to have such a good first job. Also, it was my first interview. So I'm pretty fortunate that I didn't have to wait all that long before finding out where I'll be for my first real job.
Anyway, check out my LJ if you think you know who I am, or if you're curious. I post pretty often.

Your prayers needed
Hello everyone - sad news to report.
A friend of mine from work was in a car accident on Christmas day. She and her husband were driving to his parents house and they hit an icy patch on the road, spun their car and was broadsided on her husband's (Eric's) side and was killed. Lynn was not hurt at all. They have only been married since April. Lynn is the NICEST person you would ever want to meet and is only a few years older than me. I can't imagine what pain she is going through - every Christmas she will remember this horrible accident. I ask that you pray for her and her family. I cried when Beth called to tell me, we are going to the funeral on Wednesday.
Other than that horrible news, our Christmas went well. It made us take some time to hug each other. So go hug your husband, boyfriend, or any loved one for that matter, because you never know what could happen in an instant. Current Mood: sad

For Luther Folk...
For those of you who friend me and are members of luthercollege
, I'm sorry for the cross-post, but it was too good to keep to myself.
Speaking of a bulletin board he recently completed...
"For some reason, I decided to 'build' a 3-D clock tower with a face that lit up (Christmas lights behind white paper). Around the clock were the opposites of music like fast/slow, high/low, Dan Baldwin/Tim Peter, quiet/loud." - Ryan Luhrs
Wow, I think I laughed for a good five minutes after that. Maybe it's because it's late/I'm tired and my work day is just finishing. Hrmmm....
